Recently my personal blog viostudio.com appeared in 3dinfografica.com. and there it was mentioned that I was publishing my personal work made in Autodesk 3ds max.
I just want to clarify this. Not all the work and tutorials that I publish are mine. There are a lot of tutorials from distinct artists, a couple of lines from their comments and a link to see that tutorial. This blog is just a way to have a lot of tutorials all together and a easy way to get to them. I usually specify where a post is one of my personal work.
Anyway the tutorials that are in the section tutorials are mine.
I don’t like to assume a work that isn’t mine.

This work is one of most interesting images I ever did. The idea was a vision from my mind for abandoned building. I felt that I live inside the design and I worked with every single details as if it was the design itself.
It was very nice journey with the world of textures and lighting.

Hello, my name is Hau Ming (Jamie) Li, the female artist who created the Cheese Platter tutorial earlier. This is my second tutorial on food using Maya, Photoshop and rendered with Mental Ray. I will try to explain the process from photo concept to lighting the scene using Final Gather.
A lot of people have asked me why I wanted to create food for my demo reel instead of the typical modeling and texturing reels of environments and characters. I can model and texture environments and characters like any CG artist, although few people can make photorealistic food and I want my demo reel and portfolio to be unique enough for people to remember. In addition, I want to expand my horizon as a texture artist to experiment on the use of different materials and light it using Final Gather and not be dependant on the skin shader to make photorealistic food.

There was no real concept. In the beginning, the idea came from a speed work on a French forum: http://www.mayalounge.com. We had to make Gollum’s head. So I started with this and, because this idea was cool, I decided to do a portrait of the entire Gollum…

Hello everyone! Clep is one of my latest projects and here i’m gonna explain some techniques that i used to create this image.
To create this project, I needed a basic main idea of what i wanted to show. I wanted to create a clear scence focused on one thing, all the magic will be done only by this object. The beggining was to make its design.
A good way to make good designs is to have a lot of visual references, use them with the creativity, and start to mix things up in the mind finding new ways to show what already exists. Anyway our brains interprets visual stuff relating it with things that they have seen before.

Inspired by the movie poster “Resident Evil Extinction” this is my remake, it wasn’t my intention to reproduce exactly the main character features, my purpose was to give my interpretation to the whole image even if as i started from an existing one i stayed close to that.

Oldies, but Goodies!
In this tutorial you will learn to create a fly-through of a realistic cloud tunnel that renders relatively fast, using 3D Studio Max with no plugins or 3rd party renderers.

“On this Claire model i use 3DS Max, Mudbox with some sculpting and Mentay Ray as renderer. Finally Photoshop to composite it. In doing Claire, I try to apply knowledge that i learnt during my work into it.
