Still life with black pepper

The idea for “Still life with black pepper” came about after an idea my wife, Sofia, and I had to create a picture with a lot of different textures and materials. I wanted to pose the super-task myself. As such, only the most difficult-to-make and most interesting objects were chosen. After viewing a ton of professional still life photos, I collected a number of reference images and began working. I started by modeling single objects before I finished the composition and sketch. This method meant models were created and edited throughout the evolution of this piece thereby skipping detailed overview of modeling stage.

How can I make grass? This a very commun question. If you want to make a realistic exterior you always will need grass. Here is a making of grass by the artist Olivié Charbonneau.

A lot of tutorials out there are talking about how to make grass with 3ds max and V-Ray. Some are very poor and some are absolutely crazy good (see link) with everything in between. There are different techniques to create realistic grass including using displacement modifier / map, modeling and instancing, using V-Ray proxies, etc…

Here we have a good making of. The artist is Marcin Lusnia and we cand find out interesting things about creating a scene in diferent seasons, materials, lighting, rendering and so on.

I would like to show you the process of creating my scene called “Three Seasons and night”. I based on Norwegian architects RRA project “Villa Hesthagen”. The most imported thing was setting up the environment and creating realistic winter climate. The scene was created with 3ds max 2009 and V-Ray Render.

Interior vray lighting

scene_2_thumb-2

This is a tutorial for lighting an interior scene using Vray render. I don’t want to get into details of modeling or texturing or lightinf of an architectural scene. I only want to underline some details about lighting a particular scene. The aim is to outline one particular workflow for setting up lighting with Vray and should be viewed only as a guide for approaching similar interior scenes.

Lighting in the 3D industry is an art. There are many ways of lighting a scene. I like to control each one of the lights that are in the scene. For this reason I start from darkness setting lights one by one until I get the desired result. This kind of lighting method allows us to keep track of how each light contributes to the scene, before adding new ones. This also avoids having any unnecessary lights in the scene, that may cause unexpected results or increase render times.

We will start with Sky light, then add Sun light and finish with additional fill lights if required.
